Mindelo Marina, Cape Verde
Mindelo marina is by the old town of Mindelo on the island of St. Vicente, and offers a sheltered position with plenty of on site services. Mindelo is the capital of the island and the shops and supermarkets can supply a yachts needs, there is also a fresh produce market. When finished the Marina will be able to provide berths for more than 120 boats, with an overall length of up to 35m and 4.5m draft and the facilities include gas, diesel, water, electricity and a Restaurant.
Communication is good with portuguese airline (TACV) flying to the island of Sal, and a two hour flight from Sal to Sao Vincente
Berths will be availble from daily rents up to longterm leases. Prices and Tariffs for long term leases are about 50% of the comparable Marinas in the Mediterranean or Canary Islands.
Access to the marina is via the restored CAIS ALFANDEGA (the old customs jetty), which belongs to the Marina Mindelo, allowing unrestricted movement in and out of the marina independent from low or high water. There is 24 hour security in operation.
There are several well stocked supermarkets, a good fresh produce market near the main square and a fish market on the waterfront by the old customs house. There are lots of restaurants that serve good local food often with live music.
Anchorage
Yachts can anchor beyond the Commercial port in the northern part of the bay and holding is reported as good over sand and some mud. Dinghies can be left at the small dinghy pomtoon in front of the Club Nautico.
The Approach
The marina lies in Porto Grande Bay and the city is easy to spot from seaward. At night the gas tanks behind the commercial port are lit and conspicuous. The marina is located to the southeast of the commercial port.
The Entrance
The entrance is wide and easy and guest berths are usually located on pontoon E, the marina office is at the root of the main poontoon. When finished the Marina will be able to provide berths for more than 120 boats, with an overall length of up to 35m and 4.5m draft and the facilities will include gas, diesel, water, electricity and a Restaurant.
When approaching the marina staff will guide you to you final berth. If uncertain or at night, moor up to the fuel station and wait for supervision from marina staff or drop anchor outside the marina and wait until day-break for a safe entry.
Formalities
The skipper should visit the marina office immediately on arrival and the Q flag must be displayed on approach. Check in with your boat documents at the marina-reception before continuing to the harbor police (Policia Maritima), and the Emmigration. No Visa is required when entering by yacht
