    Marinas in Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe is situated in the Leeward Islands chain of the Lesser Antilles and is two main islands joined together by a mangrove swamp. Guadelope is a mixture of French and local creole culture that provides everything from French cusine to the local rum shops. The archipelago is one of the more developed of the Caribbean islands and provides tourists and visiting yachts a fabulous resort.

The two island are Basse Terre and Grand Terre which which are shaped like a butterfly.  Grande-Terre, is the eastern wing of the island, and has a string of beach towns that offer visitors every variety of fun in the sun known to man. From surfing schools to beach bars to long stretches of beautiful sand where azure water laps at the beaches fronting the tropical forests. Basse-Terre, is the western wing, and is home to the national park, crowned by La Soufrière volcano. Hiking trails and a Jacques Cousteau underwater reserve offer adventure for those who dont want to laze on a beach. To the south of these islands  are the smaller islands of Terre de Haut, La Desirade and Marie Galante.

The capital of the islands is Basse Terre and the currency surprisingly is the Euro. It was discovered by Christopher Columbus but has been in the hand of the French off and on throughout its history of slave ftrading and piracy.

Zouk dance music, which was born in Guadeloupe, is the main sounds that pour out from a variety of discos and nightclubs in towns like Gosier, Bas-de-Fort, St. Francois, Le Moule, and Gourbeyre. Casinos are located in Gosier and St. Francois, offering blackjack and roulette. There also are party boats operating from Gosier and Pointe-a-Pitre, and the Bas du Fort Marina is known for its piano and jazz bars. Evening entertainment options often are centered on hotels, especially on the smaller islands.
