Marinas in Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia is a lush tropical island and is one of the Windward Islands in the Lesser Antilles. The island lies between between Martinique and Saint Vincent and is 27 miles long and 14 miles wide. The east coast has the best beaches and the calm Caribbean Sea while the west coast is more rugged from the Atlantic Ocean. The island is covered in rain forests and a few cultivated areas growing bananas, mangos, coconuts and papaya trees.
The most famous view of the island is the twin coastal mountain peaks called the Pitons which soar over 2000 feet above the sea, though the highest point is mount Gimie at 3120 feet.
The islands capital is Castries and the official language is English. The island became an independent state in 1972. The main source of revenue is farming and tourism but recently offshore banking is increasingly important.
