Marinas in Italy Mainland
Mainland Italy is a country located in south-central Europe. To the north it borders France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia along the Alps. To the south it consists of the entirety of the Italian Peninsula, Sicily, Sardinia — the two largest islands in the Mediterranean Sea — and many other smaller islands. The independent states of San Marino and the Vatican City are enclaves within Italy, whilst Campione d'Italia is an Italian exclave in Switzerland. Italy is divided into 20 regions, 18 being on the mainland. The currency is the Euro.
Italy has an endless list of destination ports and marinas, coves and sailing grounds, coupled with an international reputation for fine food and wine making yacht charter popular. Marinas are modern in the main and offer excellent facilities.
The transport network is very good with links by rail and road to the rest of Europe. Major airports such as Rome, Genoa and Milan have flights to the rest of Europe and internationally. Ferries operate to the Italian islands and other destinations inthe Mediterranean.
The climate of Italy is highly diverse and can be far from the stereotypical Mediterranean climate, depending on location. Most of the inland northern regions of Italy, for example Piedmont, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna, have a climate variously described as humid continental or temperate. Adriana Rigutti (in Meteorologia, Giunti 2005) states that the climte of the “Po valley region [is] continental ... with harsh winters and hot summers”.[52] The coastal areas of Liguria and most of the peninsula south of Florence generally fit the Mediterranean stereotype (Köppen climate classification Csa). Conditions on peninsular coastal areas can be very different from the interior's higher ground and valleys, particularly during the winter months when the higher altitudes tend to be cold, wet, and often snowy. The coastal regions have mild winters and warm and generally dry summers, although lowland valleys can be quite hot in summer.
