Marinas in Costa de la Luz
The Costa de la Luz is the Atlantic coast of Andalucia and runs from the Portuguese border down to Gibraltar. Andalucia is an autonomous region whose capital is Seville. The chief seaport is Cadiz which is also an important naval base. Just to the south of Cadiz is Cape Trafalgar where the battle between the British commanded by Nelson and the Spanish and French fleet took place.
The country was over run by the Vandals early in the 5th century. From the Vandals the region took the name Vandalusia, which, in later centuries, was corrupted into Andalusia. After the vandals came the Visigoths and then the Saracen and Moor civilizations and much of this influence can still be seen today.
A large stretch of the coast forms part of the Doñana National Park (Parque Nacional de Doñana), in the provinces of Seville and Huelva. Established in 1969 it is the largest national park in Spain, and occupies about 758 sq km (293 sq mi). The marinas are modern and well run with many marinas having good repair facilities. If British parts are required then Gibraltar with its excellent marinas and British service dealers is on the southern tip of this coast.
