Las Galletas Marinas Canary Islands, Tenerife
Las Galletas marina is an ideal daysail destination or stop over on longer passages and more marina berths have been add to deal with cruising yachts wanting to stay for any length of time, the anchorage is full with liveaboards. The village is backed by holiday developments but the area towards the north is largely unspoilt. There is a good selection of restaurants, cafes and bars. Shops for provisions can be found here and there are more in the Tenerife tourist resort of Costa del Silencio where the post office is situated.
Road communications are good and there is a car hire firm in the town. The airport, Reina Sofia, (Tenerife South) is about 10km away to the northeast.
This is a small fishing harbour which offers good protection for vessels to anchor or berth. The anchorage within the breakwater is usually full but space maybe found further west, though protection would be a lot worse. Holding is good over sand, but closer in the bottom turns stony. Choose your spot to anchor carefully so as not to interfere with the many tourist boats, ferries and fishing vessels. There is a small concrete pier in the southeast corner of the harbour, but this is usually full with local smallcraft and fishing boats.
The harbour lies between Punta Rasca and the white apartment blocks of Costa del Silencio. When approaching from the east keep about 0.5M off so as to avoid a reef that stretches from the southeast corner of the breakwater. Otherwise the approach and entry is straightforward as long as you do not stray too far to port when rounding the end of the breakwater where a spit of rock that juts out just in front of a restaurant.
For the more boisterous crews Costa del Silencio offers more life. In the late 1990’s plans were put forward to create more berths for yachts by adding another breakwater but this appears to have been shelved in favour of laying moorings. The island has many Yacht charter companies and chartering a boat is a popular holiday.
The Approach
The harbour lies between Punta Rasca and the white apartment blocks of Costa del Silencio. When approaching from the east keep about 0.5M off so as to avoid a reef that stretches from the southeast corner of the breakwater. Otherwise the approach and entry is straightforward as long as you do not stray too far to port when rounding the end of the breakwater where a spit of rock that juts out just in front of a restaurant. There is a 2knt speed limit approaching and at the marina entrance
The Entrance
The marina reception berth and the fuel dock are just inside the entrance in front of the blue harbour office block. At the moment the marina seems to have plenty of capacity for visiting yachts, in fact when we visited there was almost an air of desertion about the place. The pontoons appear new and have electricity and water points
Formalities
Report with the usual papers to the marina office in the blue control tower at the reception area. Office hours 0900 - 1900 daily. If the office is closed then it may be best to go to the berth mention above. Breth rates can be obtained from the marina office.
