Nanny Cay Marina, Virgin Islands, British
Nanny Cay is situated on the southern coast of Tortola, between the capital Road Town and West End. The marina provides some of the best marine services and facilities in this part of the Caribbean and has become a favourite sailing destination for cuisers and holiday makers wanting to charter.
The maina offers many facilities including hotels, bars and restaurants. There is a taxi rank which can take you the short distance to Road Town with its shops and supermarkets. The marina has a well equipped boatyard and a good chandlery.
There is plenty to do on the island, wander through centuries-old ruins such as Fort Burt, Fort Recovery, the Mount Healthy Windmill and Callwood's Rum Distillery, which is still in operation, and explore Tortola's history at the British Virgin Islands Folk Museum in Road Town.
Main Street in Road Town has an array of bars and restaurants, and shops offering everything from local spices, jams, rums, and soaps to handcrafted jewellery, silk-screened fabrics, and local art and craft. Of course if its just a beach you want then you are spoilt for choice.
The Approach
The marina is about 2 miles south west of Road Harbour and the capital.
The British Vigin Islands use the USA buoyage system, ie red buoys mark the starboard side when approaching from the sea.
The Entrance
Call the Marina Dockmaster on VHF Chn 16/68 prior to arrival and staff will be on hand to direct you to a berth, take your lines and assist with your arrival.
Formalities
The Marina is not a Port of Entry so vessel must clear into the BVI in Road Harbour, Tortola West End, Tortola Great Harbour, Jost Van Dyke Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda Beef Island (Airport). Opening hours Monday - Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, Saturday 8:30am to 12:30pm.
The marina office is open from 8am to 6.30pm, 365 days a year.
